No one knows what is behind the increased level of confusion and the attendant ongoing challenges she is presenting to me and carers Anyone who suggests it changes from day to day should witness this: it’s frequently within minutes that our status changes from friend to foe. What I can say without fear of contradiction is that I’m very tired and that a reappraisal of our situation is required. That is why I am requesting an urgent meeting of the Multi-Disciplinary Team.
I anyone else tells me I’m ‘doing a good job’ or suggests the solution is to ‘distract and redirect’ my response is likely to be in Anglo-Saxon. As much as I appreciate compliments it is a time when action is needed rather than words. We need to review whether the focus of professional input along with our Care Plan reflects where Maureen is in the progression of her condition!
From immediate effect, anyone who has or might be carrying an infection will not cross our front door. I took a chance last week with two individuals who may have brought the lurgy into this household and Maureen now has a heavy cold!
We would not cope without this guy at the moment:

I have videoed my ‘Singer Lady’ but as you know safeguarding issues prevent me from sharing her lovely voice on here. If only you could see her joy when the Three Tenors are on it would bring tears to your eyes:
She is singing in Italian at the moment: it has to be‘Incredible Maureen’ from now on!

You have already made a significant contribution to how I deal with life Tom by tutoring me through my Master’s Degree 30 years ago at Warwick. More recently your suggestion that music could be important to Maureen was as helpful as any of those references you gave me when I was your student. Maureen and I are in this together. As that chant went all those years ago: ‘the Collins united will never be defeated’ – shame about dear old Arthur!

If Maureen has an infection that could be causing the increased confusion. We got to the stage we could tell dad was coming down with something even before the medical symptoms were apparent because he would become increasingly confused.

Good point Mary – especially could be a UTI.

Dad often had UTIs or a chest infection – both required antibiotics to shift them. The confusion became worse even before he had any raised temperature or cough or pain.

Yes, it is a UTI Mary and the antibiotics are underway.

Not liking that Maureen has a UTI but that it has been diagnosed and being treated. You shoud see a difference in her confusion levels within a couple of days. Good luck.

The only caveat Mary is that I’ve seen the dip test suggest a UTI before but the lab test show no infection: time will tell. However, you will see from today’s blog that Action Man is back Carpe Diem!. Just for the record this is a natural break after a very early night and I’m only a partition wall away from Maureen. Once I’ve cleared up one or two pressing issues I will return to the land of nod with a camomile tea induced sleep.
